Social Media Policy: Public

A. Purpose

The Jeffersonville Township Public Library uses social media to inform the public about library news and events, to encourage reading and the use of the library’s resources, and to foster a sense of community.

B. Definitions

  1. For the purpose of this policy, social media is defined as any approved web application, site or account established and maintained by JTPL.

  2. The public is defined as an individual, organization, or business with potential to access library materials or become involved in events and activities through engagement, attendance, promotion, or financial support.

C. Policy

  1. Respective of First Amendment rights and current case law, JTPL reserves the ability to edit, modify, or remove any post made by a representative of the public containing inappropriate content.

    The library does not permit words or images containing profanity, obscenity, vulgarity, nudity, defamation of character, hate speech and terms, advertising, proselytizing, spam, or political campaigning on its social media pages. Such content will be removed.

    The library director or the director’s designee shall have authority to remove content with documented cause. When possible, the library shall include information in its various social media profiles detailing these standards.

  2. Comments whose main purpose are to sell a product, infringe on copyright, solicit money for a person or a cause, or spam comments will also be removed.

  3. We monitor our profiles and pages but are not responsible for content generated by users. Posted comments and images do not necessarily represent the views of the Jeffersonville Township Public Library. Our profiles and pages may contain links to other web sites on the internet. This does not constitute endorsement by the Jeffersonville Township Public Library.

  4. When interacting with other users, the public should be civil and follow the usage guidelines established by the social networking service.

  5. Links posted as comments on the Jeffersonville Township Public Library’s posts may be deleted.

  6. Repeated violations of this comment policy will cause the author to be blocked from the Jeffersonville Township Public Library’s social media pages.
