Volunteering at the Library

Do you want to give back to your community? Do you need service hours for school? Keep reading to learn more about volunteer at JTPL!

How can I get started?

Fill out a volunteer application and email it to bdaily@jefflibrary.org. You can also pick up a paper copy at either our Jeffersonville or Clarksville location and return it in person. Once our volunteer coordinator has reviewed your application, we’ll be in touch. We are fortunate in that we have many people who want to volunteer at the library, so we appreciate your patience and understanding that we may not have a role for you when you apply. We do keep all volunteer applications on file.

What are the volunteer tasks?

It depends. While JTPL tries to place volunteers where their interests and skills will be best suited, your placement also depends on which departments have the greatest need.

Some common tasks for volunteers include prepping craft materials or light housekeeping such as dusting shelves and wiping down tables. We also occasionally need volunteers with specialized skill sets to perform duties such as helping in the computer lab or working on archive projects.

Do you have an idea for a club or activity that we don’t offer? Please contact our volunteer coordinator if you would like to share your talents.

What is the schedule and how long are shifts?

That is up to you! We will work with your schedule to find a time that suits you and meets the library’s needs. Typical volunteer shifts are 1-2 hours, although this can vary based on your availability and our current needs.

How else can I support the library?

There are two independent, volunteer-led organizations that support JTPL in various ways:

The Friends of the Jeffersonville Township Public Library is a nonprofit that supports the library in several ways, most notably through its bookstore in the basement of the Jeffersonville library. Contact the Friends to learn more about them and how to get involved.

The Jeffersonville Township Public Library Foundation is an advocacy and fundraising organization. You can contact the Foundation to learn about its volunteer opportunities.
