Renovations

We’re renovating! On this page, you’ll find important details, dates, and notices throughout the renovation process. We will update the page with information as it becomes available.

Renovations are beginning soon!

We’re excited to announce that JTPL is undergoing much-needed renovations at both of our locations during 2026. These changes will include repairs to damaged roofing as well as safer circulation desks, updated patron bathrooms, new staff work areas and book drops, and a redesigned Jeffersonville Youth Services.

We expect renovations to take 6-8 months once they begin. Although we don’t have a hard start date right now, we expect construction to begin in mid-May. We will update this page as plans are finalized!

Below, you will find a renovation FAQ, the most recent updates, and a current overview of how our services have changed.

Why is the library being renovated?

The primary focus of these renovations is keeping JTPL safe and up to date for both patrons and staff. This includes repairing the roof in Jeffersonville and patron bathrooms in Clarksville. It also includes updating staff circulation desks for safety and ease of use.

Our secondary focus is in Youth Services! Jeffersonville’s Youth Services has outgrown its program area and requires updates to its carpeting, play area, and shelving. We are excited for these updates to improve our services for our youngest patrons.

When will renovations begin? How long will renovations take?

We don’t have a hard start date right now, but we are scheduled to begin construction in mid-May! Construction work is expected to take 6-8 months, which puts our completion date in this coming winter.

Each individual project will have a separate timeline. You can follow us on social media for construction photos and updates and renovations continue!

Will the library be closed during renovations?

To make sure staff and patrons remain safe throughout renovations, there will be brief closures of specific areas and services. Closed areas will be clearly marked and communicated through this page and our social media. You can find current closures in the “Library Services” section below.

Closures are planned by and coordinated with our construction company, Parco, and we will communicate all closures to our patrons as soon as those dates and times are planned.

We are dedicated to keeping our services available as much as possible, and we’ll ensure that at least one JTPL location is open at all times. Parco has plenty of experience working in public areas, and we are confident that they will balance keeping services available with keeping our patrons and staff safe.

Will JTPL still have Summer Reading?

Yes! Although Summer Reading will look a bit different this year, we are excited to say we will still be running prizes and fun programs all summer long starting on May 30.

This year, all of our Summer Reading programs will be at our Clarksville location. Patrons will still be able to check out books and pick up prizes at our Jeffersonville location, however. We’ll have more Summer Reading updates and details as we get closer.

I thought JTPL was losing funding… how is the library paying for these renovations?

You’re right! JTPL has recently lost funding to our annual budget which has affected library services such as Hoopla. These renovations have been in the works for several years, however, and their funding comes from a separate source from our typical funding.

The large majority of library funding comes from local property taxes on an annual basis. But JTPL’s current renovations are funded through governmental bonds approved by our County Council and purchased by JP Morgan Chase. These funds can only be used for the approved renovations.

Jeffersonville Youth Services is being remodeled to include hardwood floors, safer play areas, larger program spaces, and more

Update March 10, 2026: We’re packing up Youth Services for renovations to begin! What will this look like?

  • Jeffersonville’s second floor Youth Services area will be closed to patrons beginning April 6, 2026.
  • Jeffersonville’s second floor Admin hallway, art gallery, and silent study area will also be closed on April 6.
  • Juvenile and YA books from Jeffersonville will be unavailable for checkout beginning on April 6.
  • All Youth Services programs will be run at our Clarksville location beginning in April through the end of renovations.

Jeffersonville Youth Services will be moving a selection of our most used books and resources to the North Program Room during this time. We plan to open service there in mid-May where they will be available to check out. Youth Services will remain in the North Program Room until renovations are finished.

Book Collections

As of March 2026, there are no changes to our Adult book collections!
  • As construction begins, our book collections may move to new rooms or become temporarily unavailable. We’ll do everything we can to keep our books available, and we will update this page once we know dates and times of potential moves.
Beginning on April 6, 2026, Jeffersonville Youth Services books and physical resources will be unavailable for checkout.
  • Jeffersonville Youth Services is currently in the process of moving our collection to the North Program Room as we prepare for renovations. During this time, patrons will not be able to check out materials.
  • A selection of our most popular resources will be made available for checkout in person in our North Program Room beginning in mid-May. They’ll remain available in the North Program Room for the duration of the renovations.

Spaces

Jeffersonville Youth Services play spaces and computer labs will be closed for the duration of renovations.
  • Jeffersonville Youth Services will be moving their collection to the North Program Room during renovations. In order to retain enough space for books, staff work areas, and Summer Reading resources in the room, there will not be play spaces or computer labs available.
Jeffersonville program rooms are unavailable for reservation during renovations.
  • Jeffersonville’s program rooms will be used for staff work spaces and Youth Services’ needs throughout the renovations. They will not be available for public booking. However, Jeffersonville study rooms will still be available.
Clarksville meeting rooms have limited registration availability.
  • Library programs will be using Clarksville’s meeting rooms more heavily during renovations, which means there will be fewer times available for patron reservation.
  • If you or your organization would like to use a meeting room in Clarksville, please make sure to book the space as soon as possible. If you decide not to use a space you have previously booked, please cancel your reservation so that others may use the space.
As of March 2026, there are no changes to Makerspace, Multimedia Studio, or Indiana Room availability.
  • Though the Makerspace and Indiana Room are not being renovated, they may become temporarily unavailable during construction. We will provide timely updates if this happens.

Programs

Most adult programs are being held at our Clarksville location through the duration of renovations.
  • Jeffersonville’s program rooms will be used for staff work spaces and Youth Services’ needs throughout the renovations, so most programs from those rooms have been moved to Clarksville. If you’re unsure where a program is being held, these new locations can be seen on our online calendar and in our print calendar brochures available at either library location.
Crocheting Class and Let’s Talk Books are being held at off-site locations.
  • Crocheting Class will meet in The Community Center at 1406 Frederick Avenue, Jeffersonville.
  • Let’s Talk Books will meet in the Clark County Museum at 725 Michigan Avenue, Jeffersonville.
All Youth Services programming will be held at our Clarksville location beginning in April.
  • Because our Jeffersonville location’s Youth Services is having a complete makeover, staff will be occupied with packing and maintaining services during the year and space will be limited. There will still be events (including Summer Reading programs!) at Clarksville, and we encourage regular Jeffersonville patrons to visit.

Computer Labs & Printing

Both Jeffersonville and Clarksville computer labs and printing services are currently fully available.
  • Though our computer labs are not being renovated, they may become temporarily unavailable during construction. We will provide timely updates if this happens.

We recommend patrons follow our social media or return to this page for renovation updates. Large renovation changes or closures will be announced on our email newsletters as well.
