2023 Tax Filing Information

The 2024 tax filing season will begin on Monday, January 29, 2024, which is when the IRS will begin accepting and processing 2023 tax returns. The deadline for most people is Monday, April 15, 2024.

Where to get free tax preparation help

The library is unable to help people prepare their taxes. However, there are local organizations that can help you prepare your taxes for free if you meet certain criteria.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free tax preparation to anyone of any age – especially if you are 50 or older or can’t afford paid tax preparation. Be sure to check their website for all of the important documents you’ll need to bring with you.

CASI Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program

Avoid expensive ‘rapid refund’ loans and costly tax preparation fees — get your simple tax return prepared for free by IRS-certified volunteers, for clients with income under $64,000.
